in the 50's.

Have found a picture on the Web of the Northolt control tower as it existed in the mid 1950s, I spent many hours in the room accessed via the door shown. The room housed the Station's VHF receivers and an emergency battery operated Transmitter/Receiver (ex aircraft) in case of a power failure. The room also housed a master clock with a very loud tick which sent signals to other clocks in the tower. The station transmitters at that time were situated behind the small married quarters opposite the main gate and guard room right up against the railway tracks.
