ANNUAL REUNION
Our first annual reunion was held in May 1998 at Swindon Conservative Club, with 33 in attendance, the following May1999 it was held at the King's Arms hotel in Swindon with 56 in attendance. It was apparent that the reunion was going to grow rapidly, and so it was decided to seek a new venue. After writing to and visiting many hotels in various areas, the Toorak Hotel in Torquay looked promising and were duly booked for the 2000 reunion with 160 in attendance.
This venue has been so popular that at the AGM on Sunday mornings the vote has been unanimous that we book the same hotel year after year. We have members who travel from as far as Edinburgh, Lake District, and Yorkshire to attend. One member drove from France every year before he moved back to the U.K. to attend, two couple come down from Scotland, and so this must speak for itself if members are prepared to travel that distance.
The reunion is officially Friday afternoon to Sunday morning, but members can stay extra days at our reduced rate many members stay Thursday to Tuesday.
The hotel accommodation and food is first class, as are the facilities i.e. indoor/outdoor swimming, indoor bowling, tennis, croquet, and many others.
There is much to see in the area, i.e. Paignton, Brixham, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Dartmouth, Babbacombe Miniature Village etc, plus train trips and river cruises.
After arrival on Friday your time is your own until dinner at 17.30 hrs where you can sit where you like and order dinner from the menu of the day. After dinner you can sit and chat or have a drink in the hotel bar, or visit the local R.A.F.A. Club 5 minutes walk, where you will be made most welcome, as we have visted the club for the past 11 years we are excepted as friends not viitors
Saturday you are free all day and meet up again for dinner at 17.00hrs for a pre dinner drink in the placeCityConway lounge bar.
After dinner there is a cabaret with a comedian and music for dancing (in our own private suite) for those that have the energy all music is of our era NO RAP, during the evening we have a raffle.
If you would like to bring a friend with you to the reunion, that's not a problem as they can be made an associate member.
Sunday morning at 10.00 hrs is the AGM for members and coffee is laid on for the ladies & non members in Arlington suite. If you are leaving on Sunday your room must be vacated by 10.30 hrs
i.e. cases in cars, but you are welcome to use the hotel facilities for the rest of the day.
